第五堂课:《认知 vs 教导》
Knowing vs Teaching

我们来探讨教导和认知的差别
let’s explore the difference between teaching and knowing

知道一个科目不代表
by knowing a subject does not mean that
您可以教得很好
we can teach it very well

一个最好的例证是
one of my own best examples is 
我喜欢教游泳, 我教了11年
I love teaching swimming, I have been teaching 11 years 

我喜欢教科学, 我可以教到很仔细
I love teaching science, I can go into detail explanation

当聊到科学和游泳,我都会展现出满满的兴奋感
my face lights up when we talk about science and swimming

但是在教自己孩子英文,国语,华语时
but when I try to teach my own son English, BM, Chineses

对我而言是种挣扎
it’s a struggle for me

这时我才证实到,发现到
so it’s a proof for me, it’s a realization for me that 

当我可以把英文说得那么标准
when it comes to being able to speak English very well

不代表我会教英文
does not mean that you can teach English very well

当你很擅长游泳
when you are good at swimming does not mean that

不代表您会擅长教
you are very good at teaching swimming

我们要了解这是两种不同的技术
because it’s absolutely two different type of skill set

所以下次当您作为教师,在教学遇到困难时
so the next time when you are struggling like me as a teacher

不要因为您觉得自己会教游泳, 
I feel that I’m so good at teaching swimming I must be good

就会教其他科目
at teaching any subject but that’s not true

您真的需要懂得如何分解成更多步骤
you really need  a lot of breakdowns for every subject when it comes to teaching

以便下次在教书上遇到挫折时
so that next time when we get stuck at teaching

我们可以尝试思考需要哪些元素
try to think about what are the elements that is needed

为了这堂课, 我们需要什么样的教法
in order to teach that subject, what is the rules of teaching

我应该如何把它分解成更多的步骤
how do I break it down even further

如果到最后觉得还是有些困难
at end of the day if we think that is something too difficult for us 

我们可以寻找协助, 您不需要教完所有东西
we can always outsource, you don’t need  to teach everything

您可以聘请一位老师, 一位教练来协助您
you can employ a teacher, you can employ a coach to help us with that

如果您真心想教那科目,我们必须开始探讨它
but if we really want to teach that subject we have to start exploring

我有学生的家长是国家对的游泳选手
I have students who their parents are from state swimmers

他们都是非常好的游泳选手,曾经也得过很多奖牌
they are great swimmers earning medals in a competitive field 

但最终还是选择把孩子送到我这里学游泳
but they still send their kids to me because they say 

因为他们说:“教自己的孩子其实不简单”
“it’s not easy teaching my own kid”

家长很擅长游泳但不表示他们擅长教
they are good at it may not mean they are good at teaching

那么如何突破认知和教学的差距
so how do you breach that gap between knowing and teaching 

我觉得您必须了解的第一个要素是 教学的结构
I think the first thing you need to explore is the structure of teaching

如何分解更多结构和步骤, 制造一个大蓝图,该从哪里开始
how do you break it into a structure, what are the item, start from a big picture

打个比方,游泳
let’s say when it comes to swimming there is 

游泳有仰泳式, 自由式,蝴蝶式等等
freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, 

这都是有很多让我们学习的空间
these are the big things we need to learn 

更详细的因素就是比如说
go into a smaller element when it comes to let’s say 

大多数的划水都需要配合到脚,身体,手, 呼吸,头部的位置
most of the stroke may involve their legs, their body, their hands, the breathing 

只要您可以辨认每个因素
the head position as you are able to identify each element

然后把它的步骤分解出来,先说手
breakdown even further, when it comes to the hand

手的角度如何,速度如何,力量如何
how is the angle, how is the speed, how is the strength 

把细节解释得越深入越好
go into as deep as possible into each element 

这样您就可以突破
then you will be able to breach that gap

所以,去了解规则, 了解课题的结构
so learn the rules, learn the structure of that subject 

您就会从了解 “认知“ 和 ”教导“ 的差别
then you can go from knowing to teaching 

第二,认得您的障碍物
second, know the obstacles

学生在学习会遇到什么阻碍
what will be an obstacle a students will face

比如, 学游泳是一个恐惧
for example, learning swimming is fear

尝试去确认恐惧的所有因素
try to identify as many elements as possible when comes to fear 

是什么造成的, 是过去的经历吗?
what causes that, what was the past experience

可能学生之前淹过水,可能他们的教练没有遵守承诺
let’s say they drown before, lets say their coaches didn’t keep their promise

可能父亲曾经把他们丢进泳池
let’s say the father would just throw the kid into the pool

这一系列的创伤经验,或是身边朋友的侮辱造成
the traumatic experience or their friends were playing and couldn’t help themselves

有种种原因导致学生
there are so many reasons that stops people from having 

失去学习的动力
a certain thing that they relate to the past 

因为这些曾经发生的事, 我不会再做了以免事故再发生
because of that happens, I’m not gonna do that again because it may happen again 

尝试确认结构
so try to identify the structure, the obstacle and last is 

了解是什么推动人前进, 要知道如何设定目标
to understand what push people forward, how to create checkpoints

但你有设定目标, 学生会觉得
when you have good checkpoints, people will feel

“啊 这个我做到了, 是时候去下一级了”
“ahh I have finish one level, lets go to the next level”

只要有设定目标,学生会有一种成就感
whenever there is a checkpoint, students will feel a sense of achievement

当他们有成就感,他们会有好感
when they feel a sense of achievement they feel good they are 

而且会期待下一堂课
looking forward to chase the next one

设定越多目标越好,这样学生不会觉得
so create as many checkpoints as possible so it doesn’t feel like 

永远都是学一样的东西
its forever learning the same thing again and again 

学的没有意义
is forever never enough

必须要深入的探讨, 制造小目标给学生做
go deeper, go further into start small achievement

如果目标太大,对学生要完成是比较困难的一件事
slightly bigger then takes harder to achieve the next one

甚至需要花更长的时间来完成
and takes even longer time to actually achieve the next one 

尝试把它制造成一个游戏
try to set like creating a game

开始容易赢, 接着慢慢提高难度
you win early and at the end, it gets harder and harder 

现在来看看行动计划, 我们可以做什么
so now let’s look at the action plan, what can you do

我要你找一个你比较收悉的课题
I want you to try to find a subject that you are good at

可能是园艺, 可能烹饪, 可能说英语
it could be gardening, could be cooking, could even be speaking English

尝试教导一些对这课题不了解的人
try teaching it to someone who is not good at it

观察自己是如何表达您的信息
observe yourself how well are you conveying the message 

尝试观察 “认知” 和 “教导” 的区别
can you see a difference between knowing and teaching

调查您有没有责备其他人的状况
and look into incidences that you actually blame the other person

“您不了解我”
“eh you didn’t understand me”

“您不应该这样做,您应该这样做”
“eh you shouldn’t do this you shouldn’t do that” 

“您理解错了”
you know “you got me wrong”

您要进入 “我能如何教得更好”,”什么是我可以再进一步分解步骤”
go into the mode of “how can I do better”, “what can I break down even further”

“我如何继续分解成步骤使他们更加容易理解”的教学模式
“how do I make things so much easier for the other person to understand”

会什么,不重要
whatever I know is not relevant to their experience

分解成步骤给学生,这个很重要
whatever I need to break down is relevant for them 

您可以一步一步的去尝试
that you can do bit by bit, try that
