so what’s the best way to learn about distraction and deception

我会说是魔术
I would say is magic tricks

魔术是个很好的方法因为它带来娱乐
magic tricks is a very good way because it entertains

它教你如何变得更具诡计性,但出于善的目的
it teaches you how to be a little bit more deceptive but for good purpose 

我们现在来试一下,你只需说停,我就会翻那扑克牌
lets try this, you gonna try to say stop I will flip the card 

当你说停我就停
anytime you are ready just say stop 

这是他选的卡
so this is the card he choose 

我没看过他的牌,那现在我将洗牌
I’m just gonna shuffle I didn’t see it 

您的牌是黑桃9, 对吧
yours is nine of clubs is that right

这个手法就是使用转移注意力做到的
so how did it work, is actually the deception what I show you is 

你选一张牌
you get to choose what card you want 

但是你没看到它背后的过程
but you didn’t see is the working behind

一只小指, 我把我的小指放在您要的卡上
a pinky, i saw a card you want, i put it on top of my pinky 

这是您看到的, 这是他背后的过程
then this is what you see, this is what it actually happens 

欺骗和可以从魔术中学到
so magic trick is a very good way to learn deception

and distraction because it is a very useful education as well 

所以说教游泳时
so when it comes to teaching swimming

很多学生害怕
sometimes students are so afraid 

一直想着会不会这样,会不会那样
they are constantly thinking about what if this what if that, 

我不想要痛
I don’t want the pain 

我不喜欢游泳
I don’t like swimming at all

如果我们可以一直娱乐他们
so if we being able to constantly entertain them

我们可以把学生的注意力打散
we are able to distract them by let’s say an example 

教游泳的时候
when it comes to teaching swimming 

我最喜欢的案例研究之一是这个孩子
one of my favorite case study was this child 

选择性缄默症
he have a selective mutism 

选择性缄默症的意思是他不会说话
selective mutism means he is mute when he can‘t talk 

只能和选定的人说话
but only to selected people 

所以他可以跟他的爸爸妈妈她婆婆公公讲话
so he can talk to his father mother, his grandpa grandma

如果亲戚拜访他,他都不会开嘴巴
his relative come to visit he won’t even open his mouth

他上学有好几年了
he is being in school for few years 

也没有跟老师说过一句话
didn’t even talk to his teacher even a single word 

我们该如何解决呢
so how do we solve this 

来到学游泳时
so first of all when it comes to learn swimming 

我知道他想学习
I know he really wants to learn but

但是他不肯说话
he doesn’t want to talk to me 

我说到来下水池了,他没回复我
because I say let’s go into the pool, he will not 

我让他叫我EJ 老师
when I ask him call me teacher EJ 

他就是选择不说话
he will close his mouth 

那么我就开始教课
so as i start teaching him 

过程中我发现他不会表达自己
I start to realise he cant express himself 

就算可能他想,他选择沉默, 他可以做到最多就是这个了
is like even if he should he will close his arm, that’s the most he can do 

尝试了很多方式, 尝试激发,威胁他
so I tried many ways, I try to motivate him, bribe him

使用恐惧来教, 如果你不做我就把你丢下游泳池
use fear to teach, if you don’t do this I will drop you into this pool 

他怕到差一点哭了但是就是不说话
he was scared almost cried, but he just don’t want to talk 

我开始发现这是九年前
then I start to realise it was at least 9 years ago 

当我还不是一位很好的老师
that was when I was not such a good teacher 

我其实没有一个很好的策略来教,我尝试了很多方法
I don’t have a very good method, I tried all kind of ways 

但是我发现一个很好的方式就是欺骗学生的注意力
but I realise one of the best way to teach is through deception

那么我就告诉他,他可以在水里吹气泡
so what i did was I told him to blow bubbles, he can blow bubbles

告诉他用嘴巴做
so i ask him to do with his mouth 

他做到了, 也跟随着我的声音
so he did then so he follows my sound

最终说了 ”我爱EJ”
then eventually “I love EJ”

“您刚才说您爱EJ?“
then I say, ” did you say I love EJ?”

“您终于和我说话了感谢你”
“yeah you talk to me thank you”

他突然很惊讶搞不清楚状况
he was so shocked like what happened

从来没有和我说过话突然说 我爱EJ
he never talk to me before and suddenly he say I love EJ

因为这件事情后, 接下来的过程他都有和我说话
and just because of that, after that lesson he talk to me 

突然我变得那特别的人
suddenly I am the one special person

除了他家人和他公公,他也和我说话了
other than his parents and his grandpa, he talked to me 

或许欺骗是个不好的事情
so sometimes although deception can be a very bad thing 

但是您的动机是非常重要的
but end of the day the intention is very important 

如果您处于好心为了帮助人
if you have a good intention to help

那将会是非常有用的
it’s going to be very useful 

那么分散注意力呢
what about distraction 

我有很多教练,他们遇到有些问题<
so I do have many coaches who have trouble

教了学生超过30分钟
teaching their kids for more than 30mins 

学生都会说承受不了
after 30minutes they will say this kid cannot tahan

太冷了,太累了,没有体力
too cold already, too tired already don’t have the stamina

他缺乏人体力,他承受不住冷
he dont have the energy, he cannot tahan cold 

但是当换成我来教
but when I take over the class the kid can tahan all the way

就算上了一小时的课程,他们还想要更多
up to 1 hour and still want more, still want to play after that

我做的不一样是
so what did I do differently 

我会想尽办法让他们忘了冷的存在
it’s very important for me to distract them from the cold

我会快速的带过如果他们说冷
and I will quickly move on so what they say cold, 

“我了解你们现在冷, 现在我要你们踢的水,你会觉得比较温暖”
“ah i understand you are are cold lets try this, when you kick you feel warmer” 

你们知道在水里你也会流汗的
do you know you can sweat in the water as well 

我一直控制节奏
and i keep controlling the phase after I did one activity

 一个活动接着一个
then immediately I go to another and another 

如果说我要教三样东西
let’s say I want to teach 3 things 

我要他们学会踢水, 我要他们学浮起
I want to teach them to kick, teach them to float on the back

在水里吹气泡, 这三件事
teach them how to blow bubbles, 3 things 

但,于其确认他们
but instead of making sure that they 

能在接下来的20分钟踢水,然后我叫他们吹气泡
kick all the way for then next 20 min then only i teach the blowing of the bubble 

然后再20分钟内学会他们浮,他们会变得很闷
then teach them how to flow for 20min, they will get bored

我会做的是,当他们完成一个小目标
so what I do, once they reach a small goal 

我会说:“很好, 来击掌, 好的下一个, 开始在水里吹气”
“very good, high five, let’s go for the next one, start blowing”

小小的目标先从嘴, ”好的非常棒“
small bench mark go with mouth, “alright very good”

您做到了, 现在做下一个, 浮水
you achieve it well done, next one lets go to the float

下一个把一只耳朵放下水, 再把另一个放下水
next one lets put one ear into the water, let’s put another one into the water 

非常的棒现在我们再回到踢
awesome let’s go back into kicking again

就这样,我一直绕着圈跑,只是在一个原素里加一个小东西
so I keep going into circles just adding one small thing in one element 

所以孩子就会一直觉得: “这是新的东西,这是新的东西“
so they constantly feel like: “it’s a new thing, it’s a new thing”

他们一直会感觉到很有成就感
and they get the benefit of constantly feeling that achievement 

“我做到了,哦!我赢了,我好聪明,我一直在赢”
“oh i got it, oh yes i win, so clever i keep winning” 

这其实分散了他们的注意力 “觉得冷, 觉得难受,
so it distract them from “its cold, so difficult, 

觉得闷,因为一直重复一样的东西”
its so bored keep doing this i keep getting stuck here”

所以要不断地快速移动相位
so constantly moving the phase very quickly 

一直做到我可以掌握的地方
to the way they want to control and I let them time to play 

当我要他们学习, 我控制他们,他们不想停, 
when I want them to learn, I control them, they don’t stop, 

还有击掌,击掌是很催眠的, 每当他们有小成就时
and high five, high five is very hypnotic, every time they achieve something

就击掌, 击掌, 击掌
high five, high five, high five 

这是一个可以给到学生有动力的感觉
we just like trading a way of a dolphin to jump through hoops 

就一直击掌,然后呢?
that gives you high five, and how? 

我们都知道学生喜欢得到认可
we know kids love acknowledgment

当他们学会某样东西
so when ever we get them to achieve something

我们就给他击掌
we give them a high five to a point it’s so hypnotic 

您将会开始发现当学生学会某样东西
you can start to see whenever you achieve something

就算您没有想要和他们击掌
you didn’t raise your hand they are the one

学生会想要和您击掌
who raise their hand and give me a high five 

所以最终甚至可以成为您的助力
so eventually that can be even be leverage

we gonna learn about leverage in the next few classes 

作用很重要因为每当您得到别人很想要的东西
leverage is very important, because whenever when you get something that the other 

您可以吸引到他们进入您正在教的科目里
person really wants, you can hooked them into the subject you are teaching

so what I want you to try when you got home, take this assignment for you

try learning how to perform a magic trick

try 12 magic tricks that’s the assignment for you

try a card trick, a coin trick, what ever tricks that requires a practice 

那将教会您如何分散注意力和欺骗
that teaches you how to distract, deceive

同时间您也能娱乐自己的孩子
at the same time you can entertain your child

it makes you fun as a parent as a teacher

kids love magic, try that as your homework

Whenever students have small achievements, give them a high five
